Lady Gaga and Glenn Close tied for Best Actress at Critic’s Choice Awards

Both Lady Gaga and Glenn Close went home with the Best Actress award from the 2019 Critic’s Choice Awards last night, which saw a total of two ties in the night’s proceedings.

In an emotional speech, Lady Gaga commended A Star is Born director Bradley Cooper for his work on the film saying: “I have never had an experience with a director or an actor like I had with you and I will cherish it forever. You seamlessly were both the love of my life and the man behind the camera.”

The singer dedicated her win to those battling addiction and said: “I wanted nothing more to show the truth and power of this very heartbreaking dynamic. The true star of the film is not me; it is bravery and it is perseverance.” Lady Gaga was also victorious in the Best Song category for Shallow, the song which is now synonymous with the film.

Glenn Close, who starred in The Wife, thanked her fellow nominees in her acceptance speech and said: “I think I can speak for all of the women in this room – we celebrate each other, and we are proud to be in this room together.”

Another tie took place earlier in the evening in the Best Actress in a Limited Series category, with Sharp Objects star Amy Adams and Escape at Dannemora’s star Patricia Arquette both victorious.

The Favourite led the nominations with 14 in total, but it won just two awards; including Best Actress in a Comedy for Olivia Colman and Best Acting Ensemble. Meanwhile, the film Roma took home Best Picture and Best Director for Alfonso Cuarón.
