Ariana Grande slams Piers Morgan over derogatory comments about female nudity

Ariana Grande has blasted Piers Morgan in an argument on Twitter, after he made derogatory comments about female pop stars, including Grande herself. The pop star was defending the girl band, and all female pop stars’ right to dress provocatively, while still being taken seriously for their art.

Morgan caused controversy by mocking the girl band Little Mix for a recent picture in which they posed naked to promote body positivity. Morgan accused the band of stealing the idea for the shoot from the Dixie Chicks, who posed in a similar way for Entertainment Weekly magazine in 2003.

Many supporters of the band pushed back against Morgan’s comments, including Joan Grande, Ariana Grande’s mother. Piers came back with a patronising reply, saying “I’d prefer they use their talent to sell records rather than nudity, as your own daughter does”.

Ariana Grande, who has been vocal in supporting her fellow female pop stars in the past, became involved with a dignified response about women’s right to choose how they portray themselves in the public eye:

She also subtly criticised Morgan’s career, which is largely built on making controversial and insulting comments, saying that she hoped he would “realise there are other ways to go about making yourself relevant than to criticise young, beautiful, successful women for everything they do”.

Grande, who has had a well-documented difficult year, has drawn praise from her fans for her dignified and measured responses to negative comments over the past few months. But of course, when Morgan tried to get one final dig in, she had no trouble in putting him in his place:
