Need a wedding gift? These Irish-made tableware brands make for the perfect present

Invest in a beautiful piece of Irish tableware as your next wedding gift. Each one of these brands has been shortlisted for an Image Interiors & Living Design Award in recent years.

We are in high wedding season at the moment, so much so that it seems like the office is gutted of half its staff every Friday and our Instagram Stories are littered with floaty dresses and slick suits.

As much fun as weddings are, there’s always the tricky part of the gift. Giving the best man an envelope is becoming more and more common, but sometimes it’s nice to give an actual gift, especially one that was made in Ireland. At the Image Interiors desk, we’re always getting asked for wedding gift ideas and there are so many wonderful Irish makers out there, it was hard to settle on just a few. But we’ve wheedled out some of our favourites from the Image Interiors & Living Design Awards nominees over the years, which represents the pinnacle of Irish design. So if you’ve got a wedding coming up or have let buying a gift for a previous one slide (we’re all guilty of it), here are a few options from Ireland’s finest makers.

Adam Frew

Adam Frew’s glazed porcelain pieces in signature turquoise are inspired by the colours of the wild north coast of Ireland and have long been one of our favourites. adamfrew.com

Rosemarie Durr

For something a little more muted, Rosemarie Durr‘s ceramics form Kilkenny are perfect for everyday use and we’re just a little smitten with her buttermilk stackable range. rosemariedurr.com / irishdesignshop.com

Aisling McElwain

Aisling took her first pottery class not so long ago but she was instantly hooked and she was selected as the 2018 Design Awards winner for best tableware. The collection is inspired by Irish slate, capturing the colour and texture of the material juxtaposes with a delicate gold lustre rim. aislingmcelwain.com

Arran Street East

This Dublin studio prides itself on using modern technology and traditional processes to produce functional and beautiful mugs, cups and jugs. They’ve been expanding their colours over the last few years and their collection inspired by the Dublin skyline is one of our favourites. arranstreeteast.com

Rebecca Killen

If you’re looking for a gift with a bit of fun, Rebecca Killen’s witty works is the answer. Her range of bone bottles, based on old pharmacy and milk bottles is getting us excited about the next generation of ceramics. rebeccakillenceramics.com

J Hill’s Standard

On the higher end of the budget is J Hill’s Standard, Ireland’s only hand-cut glass. Honest, functional and beautiful are the hallmarks of this brand’s range of hand-crafted, contemporary cut-crystal glasses, jugs and carafes. jhillsstandard.com
