Six simple ways to make your home cosy and ready for winter

Is anyone else ready for winter? For cosy fires and giant mugs of hot chocolate. When restrictions give you no option, you have to stay in, reacquaint yourself with your sofa and watch a good movie.

It can be hard to strike a balance in your home between bright and airy during the summer and warm and snuggly once October arrives. Here are a few simple ideas to inject some warmth back into your home this winter.

Paint a wall

People are often afraid to paint, but really it’s an easy, cheap and fast way to completely change the mood of a room. If your space isn’t flooded with natural light you may be inclined to stick to pale colours, but why not embrace the darkness. This new Farrow & Ball paint De Nimes is inspired by everyday denim. De Nimes no. 299, from €60 for 2,5 litres, Farrow & Ball.

Have fun

Winter doesn’t have to be all dull and dreary. Add a bit happiness with the “enjoy” wall light from April and the Bear. Enjoy Wall Light, €45, April and the Bear

Snuggle up

There is nothing quite as comforting as snuggling into bed when it is cold and dark outside and the rain is pelting against the window. Get your bed winter ready with layers of quilts in soft cotton velvet from Graham & Green. Pebble Velvet King Size quilts, around €220, Graham & Green

Get comfortable

Cushions are an easy option for an instant update that won’t cost you an arm and a leg. Add some trendy comfort with Linum’s combination of moss green and dusty pink in soft velvet, with tactile florals in muted colours. From left: Rattvik cushion cover, €98; Paolo cushion cover in golden olive green and dusty pink, €48 each, available from The Blue Door.

Add some magic

Add a touch of magic to every dark nook and cranny of your home. We love the rustic simplicity of the Lene Bjerre candlestick. Dana candlestick, €94, Lene Bjerre.

Set the Mood

Get dark and moody with your dining table. The stainless steel dinner plates from Rowen and Wren are earthy, honest and beautiful in their simplicity. Add some goblets of red wine to get the chatter going.  Kestle Zinc Plates, around €43 for a set of four, Rowen and Wren
