Meghan Markle’s ‘something blue’ was hidden inside her wedding dress

While Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s wedding ceremony was broadcast to millions of people around the world, many of the event’s finer details have remained private until now.

The American actress tied the knot with Prince Harry on 19th May, making them the new Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Now, four months on, Meghan has opened up about the secret details of her wedding gown.

In a new ITV documentary called Queen of the World, Meghan sees her Givenchy dress for the first time since the big day. As she approaches the dress, which is displayed on a mannequin in Buckingham Palace, she says, “My goodness it’s amazing, isn’t it? Wow.

“Somewhere in here,” she continues, “There’s a piece… Did you see it? The piece of blue fabric that’s stitched inside? It was my something blue. It’s fabric from the dress that I wore on our first date.” The presenter of the documentary goes on to voice what we’re all thinking: “That’s about the most romantic thing I’ve ever heard.”

What’s more, Meghan points out some intricate embroidery on the foot of her veil. She shows how each of the 53 Commonwealth countries is represented in the form of flowers. “It was important for me to have all the 53 Commonwealth countries incorporated, and I knew that it would be a fun surprise for my now husband, who didn’t know,” Meghan explains.

“He was really over the moon to find out that I would make this choice for our day together,” she says. “And I think the other members of the family had a similar reaction, and just appreciation for the fact that we understand how important this is for us, the role that we play, and the work that we’ll continue to do in the Commonwealth countries. I hope people like it as much as I liked helping to create it.”
