Celine Dion named L’Oréal Paris spokesperson at 51

Celine Dion named L’Oréal Paris spokesperson at 51

Celine Dion is the breath of fresh air we need in times of strife, Brexit or even a fashion week which takes itself slightly too seriously. When her beloved husband Reneé died in 2016 she won over a new legion of fans for her elegant and always heartfelt display of grief and openness. She lives life with vigour; embracing fashion, wearing what makes her feel good and clapping and crying at couture catwalks.

In short: our kind of woman.

Not long after she announced the launch of her gender-inclusive clothing line for children, she is moving onto her next business venture: a collaboration with L’Oréal Paris as one of its ambassadors.

The brand described Céline Dion as “A woman of substance known for her renowned accomplishments and extraordinary personality. Resilient, self-confident, unapologetic, generous and humble, she is the ultimate symbol of female empowerment and a true woman of worth.”

At 51, Dion says she thought long and hard before deciding to do the project, feeling like she was finally in the right place in her life, but was surprised nonetheless that it came around.

“I never saw that coming, especially at 51 years old. I feel stronger, more beautiful, more grounded. There’s this power and this strength that comes with that maturity.”

“I thought seriously about it, because, if my name was on it, I wanted to truly believe in it. We, women, are all dealing with a society that is pushing so much. Considering that L’Oréal Paris gives women plenty of tools to feel good, to feel strong, to have a voice, to fulfil themselves and to feel worth it, I was honoured to become a global ambassador for the brand and represent women all around the world.”

Dion’s role as ambassador is yet another refreshing example of a shift, a deviation from traditional norms as brands ask female public figures of all ages and body types to be the face of various campaigns. Notable since actress and model, Isabella Rossellini became a face of Lancome again, 35 years after she was dropped by the brand for being “too old” at just 42 and 97-year-old fashion icon Iris Apfel, who was recently signed to IMG Models, one of the biggest agencies in the industry.

She is, she says, in the best place in her life in her fifties – and wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.

“I feel so good now that I don’t even want to think about my 20s or 30s when I was still discovering myself,” she said. “For the last couple of years, I have grown in a very strong and happy way through my passions, my work, friendship, motherhood.”

Well, if it’s good enough for Celine…
